In 2010, Dean Transportation began recognizing employees through its Standing Ovation Program. This program allows employees and customers the opportunity to recognize a Dean employee for something he or she has done that exceeded expectations and made a difference.
To nominate an employee, a colleague or customer should submit a description of the event that he or she observed in which a Dean employee went 'above and beyond' the call of duty. Then submit that description to a Dean Operations Supervisor or the Dean Human Resources Department.
Dean Transportation takes great pride in providing eco-friendly transportation solutions. In 2009, Dean Transportation, in partnership with the Greater Lansing Clean Cities Coalition, was awarded a grant to retrofit vehicles with diesel oxidation catalyst, closed crankcase ventilation systems, fuel operated heaters and to purchase hybrid school buses.
Dean Transportation strives to be a good community partner. Whether through volunteerism, sponsorship, or community outreach, Dean makes every effort to be involved. At the foundation of a community are children, who will one day be responsible for leading, mentoring and guiding our future. That is why Dean Transportation focuses on supporting organizations that provide educational opportunities to children and their families.
Dean Transportation, formerly Special Transportation, was established in the early 1950's by Mr. Eric Christensen. Mr. Christensen transported individuals affected by polio to Lansing area schools throughout the 1950's and the early 1960's. In 1969 Special Transportation was incorporated by Mr. Lyle L. Stephens, a former Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Lieutenant and a leader in passenger safety.
